Basketball Cutting Drills

Cutting on the basketball court is an important movement skill. It allows a player to free himself up for opportunity within the flow of an offensive scheme. Being able to cut in and out of a high traffic area is critical to success. A perfect example of cutting through a high traffic area is the painted region of the basketball court. A player needs to learn how to move their feet quickly to cut effectively. In addition, a player needs to understand when to use differential speeds in order to maximize the usage of screens and using body's on the court as screeners (even when they don't specifically screen for the player).

Many college and professional coaches look to recruit a player who has the cardiovascular fitness to cut offensively and defensively. Defensive cutting is relative to reactive help defense which is something of tremendous importance.

Speed and agility drills will help a player to develop a portion of the cutting skill. Not all speed and agility drills are created equal either. In fact, many things can be avoided. To know which drills to do and which ones to avoid, please allow the Basketball STRENGTH system into your life to answer all your questions.
