Can you take it?

Would you be able to handle it if a coach could watch you play and then tell you what you were doing wrong in order to help you improve? Proficient basketball coaches focus on correcting mistakes. A person without self-confidence may perceive this as a personal attack when it is not. Since the game of basketball is so fast paced, decisions occur in milliseconds therefore knowing what to do in order to minimize mistakes is of a paramount importance.

Young players need to practice, learn good habits from good coaches then make adjustments to their game-play based on their coaches cue. It's that simple. Play, make adjustments and then get better by practicing what has been detailed. You would be suprised to know that this process of leaning can be blocked by the player for a number of reasons. Typically, a player might not realize there is anything wrong with what they do. You will see this often with the shooting form of a young player. It becomes most obvious on the free throw line where the approach, stance and actual shot is fundamentally incorrect. When a player gets comfortable with a bad habit it is difficult to teach them to correct that with a new habit. This is when things go from comfortably wrong to uncomfortably correct and finally to comfortably correct. This is the formula to athletic success.
